INTERESTED IN LEADING A HIKE?
Please email the dates you are available to lead within the deadline set in the leader/driver emails every month
For example: You receive an email asking you to report your availability by Sept 26 for October hikes. Even if you are planning to lead on October 31, you must email your
availability no later than Sept 26.
If you're interested in helping out with the club, contact us!
PRE HIKE PREPARATION
- getting the map for your hike from the club locker or trails.com
- email your hikers a couple of days before the hike with information specific to your hike (i.e. weather, suggested gear, possible stops, etc.)
- research the phone number and location of nearest hospital for your hike ****
- pick up first aid kit from club locker
- print out a list of participants to bring to your hike, make note of who is not present the morning of the hike
If you volunteer to lead and drive for a hike, you are committed to leading
and driving that hike, regardless of weather or the number of people signed
up. The reason for this is that we have to pay for the van rentals in
advance, and if you cancel the hike at the last minute, we end up paying
several hundred dollars for a van rental that nobody ends up using. This is
also really frustrating to the club officers because we go through the
effort of renting the vans and organizing the hikes each month, and for the
members who have signed up for the hike.
That being said, the only reason you should ever cancel a hike is if the
weather forecast is so bad that you think it might be dangerous to hike. In
those situations, it is the responsibility of the leader to pay attention to
the weather the week leading up to the hike and cancel AT LEAST 48 HOURS IN
ADVANCE. Every leader has access to the phone numbers of the members signed
up for their hike. It is therefore also the leader's responsibility to CALL
Obviously, if the leader and driver become seriously injured or sick within
Again, on these occasions the leader/driver needs to CALL everyone signed up
