Non-Technical

Info about public transportation can be resummarized, updated, made to look pretty, and put on the public transporation page (in the other information section).

Semi-Technical

Create hidden page "Member Confirmation" and put some message about the membership signup was successful. Maybe put a 5-sec javascript redirect to the hike signup page, as this is probably what most people will want to do. (that probably falls under "technical"

Technical

update waiting list before allowing signup (on submit)

link posting hike key to a page that lists the people signed up - password protected page

test Safari potential javascript caching problem

if spinner, it means hike key is wrong or something is broken

make sure all the redirects and link in the js are pointing to cuhc.net instead of to the test site.

Add difficulty level to hike data.

Ideas

Maybe under the hike leaders section, perhaps under the online hike guides, we could keep summaries of former trips so hike leaders can get ideas and so we don't have to rewrite info about trips to the same place all the time. These could be exactly the same summaries that appear on the schedule page. Maybe they could be organized by state. Perhaps we could start by including some of the summaries that we have from other hikes on the old website.

WFA INFORMATION FOR THE FUTURE: dear future hiking club wfa organizer: just some info on our experience organizing wfa to be used if the club decides to host again. 1) accommodations: Hotel Newton (Bway and 94th street). not expensive, very convenient. 2) have the instructor(s) take the train. if they drive, free parking is at 116 and Claremont. 3) we gave members a 50% discount and gave them free membership when they signed up. 4) plan for about 20 participants. if you don't cap it too early, you will definitely get that many to sign up. participants told us that that group size was great and that if there were too many more, it would have been too much. so think about capping at ~20ish people 5) tell SOLO to note on their website that the event is only open to CU affiliates. you'll save yourself a lot of email later on. 6) here's our website posting that you can use as a template for later use: WILDERNESS FIRST AID (WFA) TRAINING (Jan 29-30) !FILLED! Location: The Meeting Room (Squash Court 12) Dodge Fitness Center Time: 9am-5pm on both days Following the success of last year's WFA training, we've decided to do it again this year! The good folks from SOLO will return to host a two day WFA training event. This will be a 16 hour long course that focuses on the basic skills of: Response and Assessment, Musculoskeletal Injuries, Environmental Emergencies, Survival Skills, Soft Tissue Injuries, Medical Emergencies and much more. A full outline can be found here on the SOLO WFA webpage. At the end of the course, you will receive an official SOLO WFA certification which is good for 2 years. This course can cost up to $160 but the club is offering it at an insanely discounted price of $47! As an added bonus, when you sign-up for WFA your $15 semester membership fee will be waived! We highly recommend this course to all our club members, especially our trip leaders. We are also offering a CPR course which will take place right after the WFA course. This is optional and will cost an additional $18. For more information feel free to contact: Allyza arlustig@gmail.com or Andre eaw2161@columbia.edu. Space is limited (the course will be capped at 12 people), so if you are interested be sure to sign-up as soon as you can. Sign up: Filled! Roster: here Note: This event is only open to Columbia Hiking Club members. Please see our membership page for information about membership eligibility. Additional Note: If you were not a club member last semester, you will still need to fill out the club membership form so that we can add you to our membership roll.
